I am a qualified Counsellor with a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Strathclyde. I came to counselling with an honours degree in Psychology and my theoretical knowledge forms the foundation for the work I do in the counselling room. For me, being a therapist is a privileged opportunity to work with clients as they explore their lives and their deeper selves.
I have provided counselling in various settings ranging from medical practices and sexual health clinics to the voluntary sector and secondary schools. I have experience in working with the many different issues that bring clients to counselling including stress; bereavement and loss; self-harming; alcohol and drug-related problems; relationship issues; family difficulties; trauma and abuse. I have additional training and experience specific to dealing with bereavement, young people, play therapy and sexual abuse.
As required of all therapists, I undertake regular supervision with another experienced counsellor to reflect upon my work. I attend continued training throughout the year in order to ensure that my practice is up to date and informed.
I am registered as a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP and I adhere to its ethical framework for good practice. I am also a member of professional counselling bodies COSCA and PCT Scotland. This gives me access to a full range of current therapeutic research and practice.
